Solihull – the best place to live in the UK!

We already knew it but now it is official. According to the UK Quality of Life index, Solihull is the best place to live in the UK!

Contributing to this achievement are high disposable incomes, longer life expectancy and fast broadband speeds.

Other factors taken into account in the index are the cost of essential goods, such as fuel, food and energy bills, as well as lifestyle factors such as working hours, life expectancy and hours of sunshine.

Despite paying high house prices, high energy bills and hefty council tax bills, Solihull is considered to be one of the most prosperous towns in the Midlands. This is because these costs are outstripped by high average salaries of £27,435 p.a. as well as relatively high levels of disposable income of £17,359 p.a. In addition there are low mortality rates, high life expectancy (in Solihull men live until they are 81 and women 84) and above average broadband speeds of 17Mb. Even car insurance premiums are cheaper in Solihull, at just £528 per year.

We’ve come a long way from that ‘Soily Hill’ and now can be secure in the knowledge that Solihull’s motto, “urbs in rure” (town in the country) really is the best of both worlds!
